The McPherson Academics and Athletic Complex (The MAAC)

As part of Drive for Distinction, a campaign to raise $80 million to support the strategic initiatives, Mount Union expanded its primary health, wellness and athletic facilities with the creation of The McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex (The MAAC).

Opened in the Fall of 2009, The MAAC is a result of a 15 month remodeling and expansion of The Timken Physical Education Building, McPherson Center for Human Health and Well-Being and Peterson Field House.

More than 25 percent of Mount Union's 2,200 students participate in intercollegiate athletics and
more than 75 percent of the entire body is involved in intramural and recreation activities. To meet this growing demand, 31,000 square feet of space was remodeled, while 41,000 square feet was added specifically for student health, recreation and fitness facilities.

The Peterson Field House was expanded to accommodate an NCAA regulation 200-meter indoor track.

Aside from expanding health and wellness facilities, the project also included remodeling and expanding classroom laboratory and office space for the Department of Human Performance and Sport Business and the Office of Athletics.
